UAB Earns NCAA All-Academic Team Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB cross country team has received All-Academic honors as announced by the USTFCCCA in conjunction with the NCAA.
The Blazers ranked in the top 15 percent in the nation with a 3.66 team GPA over the course of the academic year. The Blazers compiled the 33rd highest team GPA in the nation to earn the recognition. The mark was also second best in the conference, just a hundredth of a point behind C-USA leader Rice.
"Once again, our cross country team continues to raise the bar in and out of the classroom," said coach Matt Esche. "Their dedication in the classroom has shown posting the No. 2 GPA in C-USA and the highest UAB cross country team GPA in more than six years. These women are tremendous examples of student-athletes."
The Blazers finished the 2019 season ranked No. 15 in the NCAA South Region after senior Serena Martinez earned All-Conference USA Third Team honors. UAB cross country athletes are currently in season as members of the Blazer track and field team, preparing for the Bulldog Invitational on Feb. 14. The 2020 cross country schedule will be announced on a later date.
