UAB Beach Volleyball Opens 2020 with North Alabama, Tulane

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB beach volleyball team opens the 2020 season this Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Blazer Beach Courts with matches against North Alabama and Tulane.
UAB and North Alabama get the season started at 10 a.m., followed by the Blazers and Green Wave playing at 2 p.m. The match against Tulane will be the first of 20 CCSA conference matches for the Blazers this season.
Both UAB and Tulane are receiving votes in the preseason AVCA Top 20 national poll, setting the stage for a huge early season conference matchup. The Blazers are 4-12 against the Green Wave and look to end an eight game losing streak in the series. This is the second ever meeting between UAB and UNA with the Blazers winning the first one last year, 4-1.
The Blazers are poised to play their most challenging schedule in program history. UAB will face nine teams that appear in the AVCA Preseason Top 20, including four of which are ranked within the top five (No. 2 Florida State, No. 3 LSU, No. 4 USC, No. 5 Hawaii).
Senior Kenley Adams leads the Blazers into the season as she enters her final year in the Green and Gold 11 wins shy of becoming the program leader in career victories. Adams has been a constant in the top of UAB's lineup since her arrival in Birmingham and she currently owns 42 career wins.
Sophomore Emma Andraka was named to the CCSA Preseason Watch List and looks to build upon last year's outstanding rookie campaign. Andraka will have an increased role higher up in the Blazer lineup this season.
UAB introduces nine new faces to a group of eight returning players, composing the largest roster in program history. Of the nine new faces, eight are freshmen and one (Dylynn Otte) is a graduate transfer.
Saturday marks the first of six straight home games for the Blazers. Following North Alabama and Tulane, UAB hosts the Blazer Beach Bash next week, Feb. 28-29, and welcomes to ULM, Nicholls State, Eastern Kentucky and Coastal Carolina.
Admission is free to all UAB beach volleyball home matches and fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. No pets are allowed at the Blazer Beach Courts.
