BIRMINGHAM – Led by six players earning First Team All-Conference USA honors, the league champion UAB football team had a school record 20 players earn C-USA postseason recognition, the league announced on Monday.
UAB's First Team All-Conference USA selections were offensive linemen Colby Ragland and Sidney Wells, wide receiver Austin Watkins Jr., Jack linebacker Jordan Smith, linebacker Kristopher Moll and long snapper Jacob Fuqua.
Earning Second Team All-Conference accolades were running back Spencer Brown, tight end Hayden Pittman, defensive tackle Antonio Moultrie, linebacker Noah Wilder and cornerbacks Brontae Harris and TD Marshall.
Honorable Mention All-Conference USA selections were offensive lineman Matthew Trehern, tight end Gerrit Prince, wide receiver Myron Mitchell, defensive tackle Tyree Turner, safeties Damon Miller, Dy'jonn Turner and Will Boler and place kicker Matt Quinn.
Ragland and Wells anchored an offensive line that rushed for 200.0 yards per game and only allowed four sacks all year, which was the third fewest in the nation. Defensively, Smith and Moll were catalysts in UAB's championship run and helped UAB finish 10th nationally in total defense. One of the top long snappers in the nation, Fuqua handled all short and long snapping duties and is a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award, which is awarded to the nation's top long snapper.
These 20 players led UAB to its second Conference USA Championship in three years by defeating Marshall 22-13 last Friday in Huntington. The Blazers have compiled 34 wins since 2017, which is the most of any team in the league in that span.
The Blazers are headed to the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl to play South Carolina on Dec. 26 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Kickoff on ABC is set for 12 p.m. EST/11 a.m. CST.
UAB Fans can purchase their seats directly through the Gasparilla Bowl. Tickets for the game are $60 for level 1 and 2 sidelines and $30 for level 1 and 2 end zones. Tickets can be purchased in pods ranging from 1 up to 6 seats by clicking here.
