UAB Volleyball Announces Spring 2021 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM – First year head coach Betsy Freeburg and the UAB volleyball team announced the spring slate of the 2020-21 schedule on Thursday.
"After much anticipation, we are thrilled to announce our schedule for the 2021 spring season," said Freeburg. "We are thankful for our administration, UAB and C-USA for giving us this great opportunity."
The schedule is highlighted by four nonconference and 12 conference matches.
"We are excited to play in two home-and-home series with quality nonconference opponents, as well as compete in the West Division of C-USA," added Freeburg.
UAB kicks off the season at Kennesaw State on Jan. 22. The Blazers then host Kennesaw State at Bartow Arena Jan. 24. Last season, Kennesaw State finished the year 22-9 to win the ASUN Championship and advance to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
UAB will conclude the nonconference matches against Lipscomb on Jan. 29 in Nashville, Tenn. and Jan. 30 at Bartow Arena.
The conference schedule begins Feb. 7-8 with a trip to Denton, Texas for two matches against North Texas. Last season, the Mean Green finished third in C-USA play with a 10-4 conference record.
"The back-to-back schedule against the same opponent will provide a unique challenge to see how quickly we can improve and make adjustments," said Freeburg.
UAB's first home conference match is Feb. 14-15 against UTEP. The Blazers hold 13-6 overall record against the Miners, going 6-3 at home.
The Green and Gold travel back to The Lone Star State for two matches against Rice on Feb. 21-22. The Owls advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2019.
UAB returns home Feb. 27-28 against Louisiana Tech. The Blazers are back on the road March 7-8 to face Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Blazers' final regular-season matchup takes place March 21-22 against UTSA in Bartow Arena. Last season, the Roadrunners advanced to the first round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championships (NIVC) and finished the year with a 16-14 overall record.
The 2021 Conference USA Tournament will take place in Hattiesburg, Miss. on April 1-3.
