BIRMINGHAM – The UAB bowling team kicks off their long awaited 2020-21 season as they travel to Ruston, La. to compete in their lone fall competition at the Louisiana Tech Invite hosted by Louisiana Tech. The three-day event runs Nov. 6 through Nov. 8.
The Blazers will return six of nine players from last season's squad and welcomes four new bowlers to the team. UAB enters the season ranked No. 21 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) preseason poll.
"We couldn't be more excited to be back on the lanes this weekend," head coach Michelle Crews said. "Last season, we were hitting our peak right as Covid-19 came and shut down our postseason. This year, there is still so much uncertainty about what our spring season will look like. We are just grateful to be on the lanes together and represent the green and gold the best we can because we know many other bowling programs who haven't been able to practice together let alone compete. We look forward to a great weekend and a chance to do what we love."
The team will begin the tournament with baker matches on Friday before competing in traditional matches on Saturday. The weekend concludes with best of seven baker matches on Sunday.
Competing this weekend will be Heather Borden, Cayla Davidson, Jillian Hulsey, Katie Hurley, Samantha Johnson, Jamie Krasnigor, Haley Kvarnberg, Elise London, Morgan Mullinax and Shauna Rodgers.
UAB is one of nine ranked teams in the field this weekend, including No. 2 Vanderbilt, No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 5 Sam Houston State, No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, No. 9 Louisiana Tech and No. 20 Tulane.
