INDIANAPOLIS – UAB and the Blazer beach volleyball program will continue to host the NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship through 2024, the NCAA announced on Wednesday.
The Blazers have served as tournament host since beach volleyball started having an NCAA Championship in 2016, and will continue to do so through the 2024 season. The bid to host from 2023-26 was split as Gulf Shores will be the location in 2023-24, while the tournament will be held in Huntington Beach, Calif. in 2025-26.
"To host the NCAA Beach Volleyball National Championship is huge for our program, institution and the entire state of Alabama," said head coach Terri Del Conte. UAB beach volleyball hosts this event with pride as we continue to grow our program and sport."
The event has become one of the most popular championships the NCAA has to offer. Played during the first week of May on the white sand beaches of Gulf Shores, the beach volleyball championship has ascended into a tournament that draws thousands of fans to the city of Gulf Shores.
Along with the 8-team tournament featuring the best beach volleyball teams in the nation, one of the largest junior beach volleyball tournaments coincides with the NCAA Championship, making Gulf Shores the place to be in the first week of May for beach volleyball.
