2019-20 Men’s Tennis Roster Breakdown

BIRMINGHAM – The 2019-20 UAB men's tennis season is set to get underway on Sept. 13, with this year's roster featuring four seniors and two defending All-Conference USA performers.
Back for their final season as Blazers are seniors Giovani Pasini, Tom el Safadi, Fernando Vargas and Nikolai Manchev. Pasini finished last season with six singles wins and recorded doubles wins with three different partners. El Safadi claimed eight singles winsin the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 positions as a junior, while Vargas competed in two matches for UAB.
Manchev had an outstanding 2018-19 season off the court, as he was named the recipient of both the UAB and Conference USA Spirit of Service Awards. On the court, Manchev won five doubles matches with various partners.
While the roster features no juniors, it is strong in sophomores with three: Roman Postolka, Michal Lusovsky and Daniel Janko. Lusovsky finished the 2018-19 season on two All-Conference USA teams, the singles second team and the doubles second team, along with Postolka. Lusovsky won 11 doubles matches in 2018-19, while also notching 11 singles wins with a 7-0 record in the No. 4 position.
While Postolka was named to the All-Conference USA Doubles Second Team with Lusovsky, he also represented the Blazers in the No. 1 singles position, claiming seven wins in that spot. UAB's final sophomore, Janko, won singles matches in the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions in 2018-19, winning three doubles matches with Jasper van Kleef as well.
This season's roster features one redshirt freshman, Chase Parker. Although Parker did not see any court action last year, he was a five-time Alabama class 6A state champion at Northview High School.
The 2019-20 roster features two newcomers in true freshmen Nikola Puric and Parker Bradbery. Puric hails from Belgrade, Serbia, while Bradbery comes to UAB from nearby Briarwood Christian School.
Head Coach Derek Tarr, the winningest coach in UAB men's tennis history, returns for his 31st season at the helm of the program.
