THREE TAKEAWAYS:
- Spencer Brown looks better than ever and today was another indication that he is poised for his best season yet. The junior scored two touchdowns today and showed a burst of speed and agility that resulted in multiple long runs. Brown is 100 percent healthy this season and looks unstoppable. He enters the 2019 campaign needing 261 yards to become UAB's career leading rusher.
- Wide receiver Myron Mitchell was another standout at today's scrimmage. Mitchell had one touchdown grab and made multiple catches throughout the day. Austin Watkins and Kendall Parham's successes throughout camp have been well documented, and with Mitchell added to the mix, this trio is shaping up to be one of the top receiving units in Conference USA.
- The defense tallied three interceptions, two by safety Will Boler and one by CD Daniels. The secondary is one unit that doesn't boast a lot of playing experience, but shows a lot of potential. Boler has been a consistent factor this camp and has risen into a starting role. After practice, Daniels noted that he needs to step up with Brontae Harris being out for the season. He and Starling Thomas V are the front runners to seize the cornerback positions heading into the first game.
Bonus Note: Today's scrimmage was held at the Football Operations Center because Legion Field is undergoing a field renovation with new turf going down. The Blazers are optimistic to hold next week's scrimmage at Legion Field on the new playing surface.
