BIRMINGHAM - Graduate student Emily Martinez and senior Tressa Buckland have earned a spot on the CCSA Beach Volleyball All-Academic Team, as announced by league officials on Wednesday.
Â
This is familiar territory for Martinez as this is her third time being named to the CCSA All-Academic Team. She is joined by Macy Jerger of Florida State and Lina Bernier of FIU as the only players on this year's team who are three-time all-academic selections.
Â
Martinez is currently pursuing a Master's of Accounting and carries a 3.83 graduate GPA. She received her undergraduate accounting degree in three years and was named UAB's Most Outstanding Accounting Student last spring. She graduated with a 3.94 undergraduate degree.
Â
The San Antonio native has appeared in 18 matches this season and has 45 victories for her career, tied for the third most in program history.
Â
This is Buckland's first time earning a spot on the CCSA All-Academic Team. Buckland carries a 3.78 GPA in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Health Sciences, while also minoring in Nutrition Sciences. She is a five-time member of the UAB Dean's List.
Â
On the court, Buckland has shattered the UAB record book. Last week, Buckland became the winningest player in program history by picking up her 51st career victory. She has also established a new single season record with 19 wins this year.
Â
The Blazers are two days away from participating in the CCSA Tournament which is scheduled for April 19-21. UAB opens play with No. 9 FIU and No. 17 Florida Atlantic on Friday in Emerson, Ga.
