Men’s Tennis Defeats UConn in Boca Raton

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's tennis team won one of its three matches over the weekend at an event hosted by Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Florida.
The Blazers (8-7, 1-1 C-USA) lost to Boston University, 5-2, on Thursday before overcoming UConn, 7-0, on Friday.
The Blazers claimed the doubles point against the Huskies as Giovani Pasini and Jasper Van Kleef defeated Christian Provenzano and Justin Warren, 6-2, before Nikolai Manchev and Daniel Janko clinched the point with a 6-2 triumph over Jack McLister and John Michael Holtmann. UAB's No. 47-ranked pairing of Roman Postolka and Michal Lusovsky overcame Yili Zhang and Hank Hill on court one, 6-4, to wrap up doubles play.
UAB won all six singles matches against UConn, with Pasini claimimg a 6-0, 6-3 win over Provenzano, Postolka overcoming Zhang 6-1, 6-2 and Lusovsky defeating McLister, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the match. Van Kleef notched a win on court two, besting Holtmann, 6-3, 7-5, before Tom el Safadi won, 6-1, 7-6, over Warren. UAB's final singles match saw Janko beat Hill, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0.
The Blazers fell to Florida Atlantic, 6-1, on Saturday, marking their first Conference USA loss of the campaign. Roman Postolka came from behind on court one to notch UAB's lone point of the match.
The Green and Gold returns to the courts on March 30 as it travels to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to take on Middle Tennessee in league play.
