BIRMINGHAM – To officially usher in the new beach volleyball courts, the UAB Department of Athletics will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, March 27 at 11 a.m.
Featured speakers at the event include UAB President Ray Watts, Director of Athletics Mark Ingram and head beach volleyball coach Kyra Iannone.
The new five-court beach volleyball complex is located on the corner of 6th Avenue South and 13 Street, across from the Football Operations Center.
"The new facility and its prime location gives us a chance to be better than we ever have before," said Iannone. "We feel like we have place we belong and a place to be proud of, which allows us to push towards our potential. Our new home continues to bring us exposure we have never had before, and we want to thank the university and the athletic department for believing in us."
The Blazers played their opening weekend of the season on the courts and went undefeated. UAB is currently 9-7 overall and is coming off the program's second win over a nationally-ranked opponent as the Blazers topped No. 18 Georgia State 3-2 on March 17 in Columbia, S.C.
