Blazers Set for SoCon Championship

BIRMINGHAM – After going a perfect 5-0 in SoCon competition this season, the UAB rifle team now sets its sights on the SoCon Championship set for Saturday March 2 in Statesboro, Ga., on the campus of Georgia Southern.
"We are very excited about the SoCon Championships," head coach Lori Goodwin said. "We truly feel like this is our event to win and we are carrying a lot of momentum into this weekend."
Michael Dietz leads the team with a 1153.6 average over a team best 11 matches this season. The freshman has led the Green and Gold in 10 matches this season, and enters his first SoCon Championship as one of the top shooters in the league.
North Georgia enters the match as the favorite after carrying a conference leading 2267.9 average in Smallbore and an aggregate 4584 in SoCon Matches.
The first Smallbore relay is set to begin at 7 a.m. CST followed by two more relays and the finals set for 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
The Air Rifle competition begins Sunday morning at 6:45 a.m. CST with the finals set for 1:15 p.m. CST Sunday afternoon.
Following the competition on Sunday, the SoCon will announce Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year.
