Blazers Finish Fourth at Final MEAC Regular Season Event

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After an 8-2 record over two days, the UAB bowling team finished fourth overall at the final MEAC regular season event held Feb. 23-24 in Greensboro, N.C.
The Blazers finished fourth overall in the final MEAC standings, good enough to qualify them for their first ever MEAC Conference Championship held at the end of March.
"It was a challenging weekend," head coach Michelle Crews said. "Anytime you come out of an event 8-2 and know in your heart it was not your best weekend, we can take that as a positive and learn from the opportunity. We are so grateful to the MEAC administration and our fellow MEAC schools for giving us the opportunity this year to join them and represent such an amazing, talented field of schools. We will head into our first conference championship as the No. 4 seed as fight for a spot in the NCAA Championship field."
UAB opened Day One with five Traditional games, amassing a 4,526 pin fall and an a 905.2 average. The Blazers began the day cruising to a 910-698 victory over Norfolk State followed by another victory with a 910-798 win over Howard. The Green and Gold improved to 3-0 on the day, defeating Coppin State 900-803, before rattling off their fourth win in a 901-851 victory over Monmouth. The lone setback of the day came in the final game when UMES edged UAB 977-905.
Day Two opened with a hot start as the Blazers downed Morgan State in a close 899-886 battle, but suffered their only defeat of the day a match later in a 946-888 loss to North Carolina A&T. Match three was a nail biter as UAB tied Delaware State 867, sending the Blazers into their first rolloff of the year. The rolloff was frame 6-10 that the Blazers wont 95-74. The win propelled UAB to a pair of victories over Bethune-Cookman (916-758) and Florida A&M (920-849) to close the day with a 4-1 record and an 8-2 overall mark over two days.
UAB returns to the lane March 8-10 at the USBC Sectionals. The Blazers are still awaiting their location.
