BIRMINGHAM – The Blazers have been voted No. 22 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) first poll of the season, the national organization announced on Wednesday afternoon.
UAB started this season as No. 16 in the NTCA preseason polls. The Blazers wrapped up the first half of their season with a 28-22 record including top-10 finishes in all four competitions so far.
The Blazers are doing great individually also. Rachel Strogin and Samantha Johnson both made the Allstate Sugar Bowl All-Tournament team and Taylor Russell made the Stallings Invitational All-Tournament team. Russell was also the first Blazer this season to receive Bowler of the Week honors.
UAB is one of five MEAC teams to make an appearance in the NTCA's first poll including Maryland Eastern Shore (No. 6), North Carolina A&T (No. 7), Delaware State (No. 14), and Monmouth (No. 23).
The Blazers return to the lanes on February 7 when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to compete in the Wildcat Classic hosted by Bethune-Cookman.
