BIRMINGHAM- After coming off a deserved bye week, the No. 19 UAB bowling team returns to action this weekend when it travels to Baltimore, Md. for their second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) competition hosted by Coppin State.
The Blazers are off to a blazing start with top-10 finishes in both of their matches this season leading them to a 16-9 record.
"After a week off of competition and a lot of hard work on the lanes, we are excited to get back to action this weekend at our first MEAC meet of the season," said coach Michelle Crews. "We learned a lot during our first two events about our equipment, our team chemistry, and what it's going to take to move up the rankings this year. We are ready to put it all together and rise to the occasion for the next two weekends."
The tournament will follow the format of five Baker games on Friday, five Traditional games on Saturday and one Traditional game followed by two best-of-seven bracket-round matches on Sunday.
UAB is one of five ranked teams in the field this weekend, including No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore, No. 8 North Carolina A&T, No. 15 Delaware State and No. 25 Monmouth.
In their first MEAC competition last year, the Blazers finished with a 9-1 record with impressive wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State.
The Blazers posted an 8-4 record in their last match, including a near-perfect 3-1 record on day one of the competition to finish in seventh place at the Bearcat Hammer Open. Rachel Strogin led the way with a total pinfall of 1,002 to finish in seventh place. Jamie Krasnigor (943) and Samantha Johnson (936) finished in 19th and 23rd, respectively, to round out the Blazers in the top 25 individually.
Competing for UAB this weekend in the MEAC conference match will be Taylor Russell, Rachel Strogin, Annie Hurley, Elise London, Samantha Johnson, Cameron Snyder, Cayla Davidson, Jamie Krasnigor, and Katie Hurley.
UAB closes out the fall portion of its schedule on November 15-17 in Greensboro, N.C. for the Stallings Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T.
