Bill Clark Named to Paul “Bear” Bryant Award Watch List

HOUSTON - For a second consecutive year, UAB football head coach Bill Clark has been named to the Paul "Bear" Bryant Award Watch List, annually presented to the National Coach of the Year by the American Heart Association.
Clark is one of 22 coaches named to this year's watch list and is the lone representative from Conference USA to earn the distinction.
After last year's record-setting season in which the Blazers finished 11-3 overall and captured their first C-USA title, Clark was a finalist for this award and flew to Houston for the ceremony. The 2018 award was ultimately given to Clemson's Dabo Swinney.
Clark once again has the UAB rolling as the Blazers sit at 6-1 entering their second bye week of the season. UAB is 17-4 dating back to last season and has compiled an overall record of 25-9 since returning to action in 2017.
A specialist on the defensive side of the ball, Clark has the Blazers all the way up to No. 3 nationally in total defense. UAB leads the nation in fumble recoveries (12) and also ranks top 10 in third down defense (5th), rushing defense (6th), passing yards allowed (7th), tackles for loss (7th), sacks per game (8th) and scoring defense (10th).
The Blazers have two weeks to prepare for their game at Tennessee on Nov. 2 in Knoxville. Kick is set for 7 p.m. EST/6 p.m. CST on ESPNU. Tickets for the game are still available for $45 and can be purchased by calling 205-975-UAB1.
