BIRMINGHAM – The UAB volleyball and bowling teams participated in UAB's 50 Acts of Service over the weekend, working with Feed My Starving Children.
The Christian non-profit is committed to feeding God's starving children in body and spirit. The approach for the organization is simple, children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children and are then shipped to distribution partners around the world.
As a part of UAB's 50th anniversary and its 50 Acts of Service initiative, the volleyball and bowling teams helped Feed My Starving Children package 268 boxes of food that will feed 155 children for one whole year.
Under the direction of head coach Michelle Crews, the bowling team has helped package food for several years.
"I have done this event for many years with my teams," Crews said. "Each and every year it becomes more and more rewarding. We truly feel like we are making a difference in the lives of those who are not as fortunate as we are. I hope to continue doing this event as a team for many years to come."
Freshman volleyball player Bri Muller worked with the organization for the first time and had an eye opening experience.
"Feed My Starving Children was an awesome experience that opened my eyes," Muller said. "It was really fun getting to do it as a team and I'm looking forward to doing it next year."
This has been recorded through campus as UAB Athletics' participation in the 50 Acts of Service. For more information on the initiative click here.
