Blazers Notch a Victory in Baton Rouge

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's tennis team split a pair of matches against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and LSU on Saturday at the Donni Leaycraft Scramble in Baton Rouge, La.

UAB defeated UTRGV, 4-0, in its first match of the day, powered by four singles victories. Tom el Safadi defeated Mateo Schmit, 6-3, 6-2, in the fifth position before fellow junior Giovani Pasini claimed victory over Michael Loyd, 6-0, 6-4, in the sixth position.

Freshman Daniel Janko defeated Clement Sarradin, 6-4, 6-2, in the third position. The match was clinched by newcomer Roman Postolka, who topped Yehonatan Kaufman, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, as the No. 1 for UAB.

Host school LSU then overcame the Blazers, 4-0, in UAB's second match of the day.

The Green and Gold returns to action on Jan. 26 at Lipscomb, with the match set to begin at 1 p.m.
