UAB Takes Fourth at FSU Invitational

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's tennis team completed play at the FSU Invite on Sunday afternoon, finishing the event in fourth place.

The Blazers (1-2, 0-0 C-USA) opened the event with a 4-0 victory against Florida A&M on Saturday morning. Returner Tom el Safadi defeated Rodney Sturgis 6-1, 6-1 in singles play and newcomer Michal Lusovsky teamed up with returner Daniel Janko to claim a doubles win over Luis Alejandra and Illya Skonny. The remaining UAB points came as the result of forfeitures.

UAB returned to the courts on Saturday afternoon for a second-round matchup with No. 20 Florida State but fell, 4-0, to the Seminoles.

The Green and Gold advanced to play in the third place match against North Florida early Sunday afternoon but dropped the match, 4-1, to complete play in fourth place.

UAB returns to the courts on Jan. 19 to take part in the Donni Leaycraft Scramble, played in Baton Rouge, La. and hosted by LSU.
