Blazers Open Season With Sixth Place Finish

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The UAB cross country team raced out to a sixth-place finish as it began its season Saturday night at the Memphis Twilight Classic.

The Blazers were unable to defend their title as they finished sixth in the 21-team field.

"I am very pleased with the efforts tonight," head coach Matt Esche said. "It was a big pack effort putting five girls within 16 seconds, six within 31 seconds and seven within 35 seconds is impressive. We ran within ourselves. This pack has set themselves up for a tremendous season."

Bethan Evans paced the Blazers with a 28th place finish to lead the team.

The Blazers return to the course Sept. 15 at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn.
