BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With eight returners from the 2017 team that finished fourth in Conference USA, UAB cross country coach Matt Esche has announced his squad's 2018 season.
The Blazers are slated to run in five events, including a home event in Montevallo.
UAB opens the season with a return to trip to Memphis, Tenn., for the Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 1, an event the Blazers won a season ago.
The Blazers remain in the state of Tennessee for Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic set for Sept. 15 in Nashville.
The season continues two week later on Sept. 19 in Chicago at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, before UAB returns home to host the Blazer Classic on Oct. 12.
UAB opens postseason at the Conference USA Championships, hosted by Florida Atlantic, in Boca Raton, Fla., on Oct. 27.
"This is going to be a challenging schedule for the ladies this fall," Esche said. "We head back to Memphis, followed by a tremendous opportunity to compete at Vanderbilt. Loyola Lakefront allows us to participate in one of the oldest events in the country, while also mirroring the conference course. One of the biggest highlights of the year will be the Blazer Classic because it has been years since UAB has had a home cross country meet."
The NCAA South Regional Championship is set for Nov. 9 on the campus of Florida State, while the National Championship is slated for Nov. 17 in Madison, Wisc.
