Beach Volleyball Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for Aug. 13

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Department of Athletics will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new state-of-the-art beach volleyball facility on Monday, Aug. 13 at 10 a.m.
Located adjacent to the Football Operations Building, the new five-court complex will allow the Blazers to host more events and team tournaments throughout the season as they look to assend to the top of the CCSA which sent four teams to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram will emcee the event, while additional comments will be made by UAB President Dr. Ray Watts and head beach volleyball coach Kyra Iannone.
"These new courts are program-changing for UAB beach volleyball," Iannone said. "Having this new facility will provide us the quality training and match experience we need as we continue building our championship program."
Iannone enters her second year as head coach of the Blazers and led UAB to the program's signature victory in 2017 with a victory over No. 8 South Carolina to mark the first win over a ranked opponent in school history. The Blazers also received votes in the national poll for five weeks last season.
The Blazers are expected to have their new home for the start of the 2019 season in February.
Entrance to Lot 15N for event parking can be accessed from 13th Avenue South.
