Craig Kanyangarara Named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Redshirt senior Craig Kanyangarara has been named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which is annually presented to one collegiate football student-athlete nationwide for his efforts in community service.
Known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," the Wuerffel Trophy will name its semifinalists on Nov. 1, 2018 and the finalists will be announced on Nov. 19. The trophy is presented at the All Sports Association's Awards Banquet in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., on Feb. 15, 2019.
"Making a difference in our community is something we preach every day and Craig is at the forefront of our efforts as a football program," head coach Bill Clark said. "His humble and hardworking attitude reflects in the way he serves others and he is a true representation of what this award stands for."
Kanyangarara is actively involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, as well as helping serve food to the homeless a few days every month.
Along with regularly donating clothes to the Salvation Army, Craig has recently participated in a home repair project for Habitat for Humanity and led a group of freshmen to Children's Harbor for an activity with the patients.
Kanyangarara appeared in 10 games last season and had a career-high six tackles and a sack at Florida.
The Blazers are exactly five weeks away from taking the field for the 2018 campaign, which opens on Thursday, Aug. 30 at home against Savannah State. Season tickets, mini packs and group tickets are on sale by clicking here.
