Randy Norton Signs Five-Year Contract Extension with UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After orchestrating the best season in the 40-year history of UAB women's basketball, head coach Randy Norton has reached an agreement to remain at the helm of the Blazers' program, Director of Athletics Mark Ingram has announced.
 
The 2017-18 Conference USA Coach of the Year, Norton will be under contract with UAB through April 30, 2023. With a current overall record of 91-66, he will enter his sixth season in charge of the Green and Gold in 2018-19.
 
"I am very thankful for the new contract, the support and the opportunity to continue to build a championship program here at UAB," Norton said. "We have built a great foundation and I am extremely grateful that Mark and our administration have the confidence in me and my staff to take this program to new heights."
 
Norton led UAB to unprecedented heights last season, as the team claimed the first Conference USA Regular Season Championship in program history while breaking the school record for overall wins (27) and conference wins (13) in a single season.
 
The team was rewarded for their successes with their first appearance in the postseason since the 2010-11 season when they advanced to the Second Round of the WNIT.
 
UAB's dominance in the 2017-18 season did not stop there, as the Green and Gold broke multiple school records, including made 3-pointers in a season (267), 3-point field goal percentage (37.6), assists (590), assist/turnover ratio (1.5), while breaking single-game school records in made 3-pointers (17) and assists (34).
 
In his five years as head coach, the Iowa City, Iowa native has coached eight All-Conference USA players, including current UAB stars Deanna Kuzmanic, Rachael Childress and Miyah Barnes.
