ORLANDO – In a field featuring 16 of the top 100 players nationally, senior R.J. Keur continues to display his resolve following a second round 73 (+1) at the NCAA Regional in Kissimmee, Fla. At one under par for the tournament, he is tied for 23rd after 36 holes at Reunion Resort - Watson Course.
Keur (70-73 =143) opened his day with a birdie on the par five first hole after narrowly missing a fifty foot eagle putt. Despite falling behind with four bogeys in the middle of his round, the North Charleston, S.C. native carded a birdie on hole 14 and sank a ten foot birdie putt on 18 to post an even-par 36 on his final nine holes.
"R.J. battled today and recovered nicely on his final five holes to salvage his round," head coach Mike Wilson said. "Obviously he will have to do something special in his final round to reach the top, but I am proud of his fight so far and expect him to do what R.J. always does tomorrow and play a solid round of golf."
With only 18 holes remaining, Keur is seven strokes off the lead, held by Khyler Tate (UCF), Andy Zhang (Florida) and Austin Hitt (North Carolina) at eight under par.
The top five remains unchanged after two days of action, as Florida (-25) resides atop the team leaderboard following a -13 in round two. UCF (-20) sits in second place, Kent State (-16) in third and South Florida (-13) in fourth. Vanderbilt, Colorado State and North Carolina are tied for fifth at -11.
At the conclusion of the 54-hole tournament, the top five teams and the next lowest individual score from a player not on those five teams will advance to the NCAA National Championship in Stillwater, Okla., May 25-30.
