ORLANDO - Playing through wet conditions on the first day of action at the NCAA Regional in Kissimmee, Fla., senior R.J. Keur shot a two under 70 and is tied for 16th place after the first 18 holes at Reunion Resort - Watson Course.
Keur played the front nine and two under and was even par on the back nine for his 70. He carded four birdies and two bogeys on the day.
"R.J. is right where he needs to be after the first 18 holes," head coach Mike Wilson said. "He has given himself a very good opportunity to be the low individual player and he just needs to stay consistent. If he continues to play like he did today, he will be right there at the end."
Keur is just three strokes off the lead as George Cunningham (Arizona), Chase Johnson (Kent State), Juuso Kahlos (UCF) and Bobby Bai (UCF) all shot five under.
The top four teams after the opening round in Kissimmee are Florida (-12), UCF (-12), Kent State (-8) and South Florida (-6), while Vanderbilt and North Carolina are tied for fifth at -5.
At the conclusion of the 54-hole tournament, the top five teams and the next lowest individual score from a player not on those five teams will advance to the NCAA National Championship in Stillwater, Okla., May 25-30.
