UAB Wins Stroke Play; Advances to Match Play as Top Seed

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The UAB men's golf team finished first overall after 54 holes of stroke play at the C-USA Championship and advances as the top seed to a four-team match play which will decide a conference champion.
The Blazers (+8 overall) were +2 on the day and won stroke play by five shots over Middle Tennessee (+13). UAB will take on Rice in the 1 vs. 4 match play pairing.
Individually, UAB had two players make the All-Tournament Team as William Walker III finished tied for second overall at -2, and Murray Naysmith finished fifth at +1. R.J. Keur also helped the team cause as he tied for sixth place overall at +2.
Match play was scheduled for 36 holes on Wednesday, but with impending weather, match play will start later this afternoon and the championship match will be played on Wednesday morning.
With UAB and Middle Tennessee tied for the team lead at +15 through 15 holes, the Blazers caught fire with eight birdies in the final three holes to solidify the top seed. John Hayden also had his best round of the tournament at even par and birdied the finals two holes. He finished tied for 26th for the tournament.
The Blazers and the Owls tee off at 4 p.m. CST, while the 2 vs. 3 matchup pits Middle Tennessee against Charlotte.
