William Walker III Named Conference USA Men’s Golfer of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In leading UAB to its best finish and lowest team score of the season at the Stitch Invitational, William Walker III has been named the Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Walker III (68-70-71 = 209, -7) tied his second lowest total score of the season and was under par in all three rounds, including an opening round four under.
The redshirt sophomore tied for 11th place overall in a loaded field and paced the Blazers as all five UAB golfers finished inside the top 30. As a team, UAB finished fourth overall and shot their lowest combined total of the season, finishing at -17. Only ACC teams Duke, Wake Forest and NC State finished ahead of the Blazers.
"William has played extremely well this spring and should contend for the Conference USA title next week in Arkansas," head coach Mike Wilson said. "He led our team to its lowest score of the season and if we can play like we did last weekend, we have a very good chance at winning the Conference USA Tournament."
Walker III has now been under par in four tournaments this season and has 12 rounds at or under par overall, along with three top 20 finishes.
He and his fellow Blazers look to contend for the C-USA title beginning this Sunday, April 22, at Texarkana Country Club in Arkansas.
