BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off one of the most successful individual seasons in UAB women's bowling history, sophomore Taylor Russell has been named a National Tenpin Coaches Associate (NTCA) Honorable Mention All-American, the national bowling organization announced on Wednesday night.
Russell is the first player in program history to garner All-America recognition after becoming the first Blazer ever nominated for the honor during her freshman campaign.
"What an honor to finally have our first All-American in program history," head coach Michelle Crews said. "Taylor had a solid rookie season last year, but this year she really stepped up her game and led the team to new heights on the lanes. We are so proud of her accomplishment and look forward to seeing her move up the rankings in the coming seasons."
Throughout the season, Russell has been the Blazers' most prolific player, leading the team with a 208.4 average over 40 matches. She bowled over 200 23 times this season, including her top score of 259 against McKendree at the Mid-Winter Classic hosted by Arkansas State.
The Tupelo, Miss., native also took home two All-Tournament Honors and claimed an individual title at the Hornet Classic where she helped guide the team to a first place finish of its own.
The 16th-ranked Blazers will cap off their historic season with a trip to the USBC National Championship on April 19-21 in Lincoln, Neb. More information on the tournament can be located on the USCB website.
