UAB Rifle Finishes Fourth in the Southern Conference

2018 Smallbore Results 2018 Air Rifle Results

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UAB rifle team wrapped up the Southern Conference tournament Sunday with a fourth place finish in the conference as two shooters earned all-conference honors.

The Blazers shot a score of 2,278 with the air rifle which placed them fifth in that category but when combined with the 2,228 they shot with the smallbore, it gave UAB a 4,510 aggregate score. UAB finished tied for third with VMI in the smallbore competition and placed fifth with the air rifle.

"We shot well as a team and we were able to place towards the top of the conference," head coach Lori Goodwin said. "This is the first time we have shot both guns so I am very pleased with how we performed all season long. I'm excited for the future of our program and this was a great step forward."

The Green and Gold put two shooters in the top 10 of the smallbore class as Selina Curren and Oliva Francisco finished seventh and ninth respectively. Curren shot a 565 while Francisco shot a 561.

Curren also led the Blazers in the air rifle section as she shot a score of 575 placing 13th overall. Lilly Vonderau finished 15th with the air rifle shooting a final score of 573.

Francisco and Curren were also named to the All-Southern Conference Smallbore First and Second teams. Curren earned a spot on the first team while Francisco earned second team honors.

"I am extremely proud of both Selina and Olivia," Goodwin said. "Selina, as a senior, has led this team and has been a fantastic example of the hard work and dedication it takes to be a top level shooter. Olivia is just a freshman and has performed unbelievably this season and I am very excited for her future in this sport."

North Georgia repeated as Southern Conference Champion.
