RECORD BOOK
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In its only tune-up for the 2018 season, the UAB beach volleyball team will hold its Green and Gold scrimmage on Saturday, Feb. 17 at the West Campus Athletic Complex. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Kyra Iannone, the Blazers open the season at the New Orleans Invitational March 2-3, and will use this weekend to prepare for the opener.
UAB introduces seven new players to the roster this year and returns an additional seven from last year's squad. Seniors Avei Logoleo and Gabbi Moreno enter their final year as two of the more decorated players in program history.
Logoleo needs just eight victories this season to become UAB's leader in career wins, while Moreno enters the season fifth on the all-time wins list.
Sophomore Kenley Adams looks to improve upon her stellar freshman season in which she compiled 16 victories, with 13 of those coming alongside teammate Emily Martinez who finished last season with a team-high 17 wins.
Newcomers Devon May (grad transfer), Erin Bognar (grad transfer), Annie Pringle (transfer) and Kaylee McClure (true freshman) all look to make an immediate impact for the Blazers this season.
UAB will not shy away from top competition this season as the schedule features seven teams who finished in the final AVCA top 15 last season. The Blazers' two toughest tournaments come at South Carolina (TCU, UNCW, Hawaii, South Carolina) and Florida State (TCU, Georgia State, FSU, Florida Atlantic). Of those seven teams, six were ranked at the end of last season.
Admission to Saturday's Green and Gold Scrimmage is free and open to the public. There are bleachers at Blazer Beach, but fans are encouraged to bring additional beach chairs. For more information on UAB beach volleyball, follow @UAB_BVB on Twitter and Instagram.
