David Reeves Named a Semifinalist for the Broyles Award

BIRMINGHAM - Defensive Coordinator David Reeves has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Broyles Award, annually given to the nation's top assistant coaches.
Reeves was selected as a semifinalist on Tuesday from the initial list of 53 candidates which were announced on Nov. 7. Five finalists will be invited to Little Rock, Ark. where the 2018 Broyles Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
Reeves is one of seven defensive coordinators on the list of semifinalists and just one of four coaches not from a Power 5 school.

Army - Jay Bateman, Defensive Coordinator

Clemson - Jeff Scott, Co-Offensive Coordinator/WRs
Georgia - Sam Pittman, Offensive Line
Louisiana State - Dave Aranda, Defensive Coordinator
Michigan - Don Brown, Defensive Coordinator
Mississippi State - Bob Shoop, Defensive Coordinator/Safeties
Notre Dame - Chip Long, Offensive Coordinator
Oklahoma - Bill Bedenbaugh, Co-Offensive Coordinator/O-Line
Utah State - David Yost, Offensive Coordinator/QBs
Washington State - Tracy Claeys, Defensive Coordinator
West Virginia - Jake Spavital, Offensive Coordinator/QBs
Home to Conference USA's top ranked defense, Reeves has led the Blazers to top-6 national rankings in seven different statistical categories.
Along with leading the nation in third down (.250) and fourth down defense (.214), UAB is third in sacks per game (3.55), fifth in total defense (277.5) and sixth in scoring defense (15.7), passing yards allowed (157.6) and tackles for loss per game (8.1).
The Blazers have already set a school record in sacks (39) and are poised to re-write all of UAB's defensive program records.
At 9-2 and 7-0 in league play, the Blazers head to Middle Tennessee this weekend for a chance to clinch home field advantage in the Conference USA Championship Game on Dec. 1. Kickoff in Murfreesboro is set for 2 p.m. CST on ESPN3.
