BIRMINGHAM – The UAB track and field team announced its 2018-19 indoor schedule on Monday afternoon, one that features five meets in Birmingham.
The Blazers open the season at the Birmingham CrossPlex on November 30th, running in the Birmingham Southern Ice Breaker. That will be the only meet for the Blazers until the new year when UAB hosts back-to-back meets at the CrossPlex.
"We are very excited about our indoor season and the competition we will be facing this year," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "The opening meet in November will be good for us to see how far we've come as a team through our training in the fall and it'll be good to just knock off some of the rust."
On January 11th and 12th, UAB will welcome several marquee teams to Birmingham for the Blazer and Vulcan Invitational. Miami, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Georgia will be in attendance for the Blazer Invite on January 11th, while Miami and LSU headline the Blazers' competition in the Vulcan Invite on the 12th.
UAB will go on the road following the Blazer and Vulcan Invitational, traveling to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Invite on January 18-19th. The Green and Gold head back to Boston for the second year in a row, competing in the Harvard Crimson Elite meet and the Boston University Scarlett and White Invitational on February 1-2nd.
The Blazers return to the CrossPlex on February 9th for their final regular season meet, the Samford Invite, before hosting the Conference USA Indoor Championships on February 16-17th, the eighth-straight season the meet will be held in Birmingham.
On March 8-9th, UAB and the Birmingham CrossPlex will host the NCAA Indoor National Championships for the second time, and the first time since 2016.
"Getting to host the C-USA Championships is always an honor and we take pride in putting on a great event," Thomas said. "That honor and pride is increased this season as we host the NCAA Indoor National Championships. It is going to be a fantastic event that will bring some of the fastest athletes in the world to Birmingham, it will be a must see event."
