BIRMINGHAM - In leading the Blazers to a 29-21 victory over North Texas with 100 yards and three touchdowns, sophomore running back Spencer Brown has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week.
In a battle of the top two teams in C-USA, Brown tallied his third 100-yard rushing performance of the year and had a season-high three rushing touchdowns against the Mean Green. He now has nine career 100-yard rushing games, which is fourth most in school history.
Brown got stronger as the game went on, picking up 62 of his 100 yards and scoring two of his three touchdowns in the second half as UAB outscored North Texas 19-0 after halftime.
The Kimberly, Ala. native has three multi-touchdown games in 2018 and has found the end zone eight times in the last four games. He has 10 rushing touchdowns this year and needs four more to break the UAB single season record.
In 20 career games, Brown has amassed 1,920 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. He is 60 yards away from moving into sixth place on UAB's career rushing list and his 20 career rushing touchdowns currently ranks him fifth in school history.
Brown is pacing a UAB offense which leads Conference USA and ranks 19th nationally in rushing yards per game at 228.4. The Blazers have had at least 200 rushing yards in six of seven games this season, and have scored no less than two rushing touchdowns every game in 2018, and three rushing touchdowns in six of seven contests.
This is the second straight week the Blazers have produced a C-USA Offensive Player of the Week. Brown joins Xavier Ubosi who won the award for his performance at Rice in which he had 196 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
UAB is off to its best start in school history and is riding a program-best five game winning streak. The Blazers (6-1, 4-0 C-USA) look to keep that momentum going this coming Saturday, Oct. 27, at UTEP (0-7, 0-3 C-USA). Kickoff on ESPN+ is set for 6:30 p.m. CST.
