UAB Claims One Victory at the ITA All-American Championships

BIRMINGHAM – UAB wrapped up play at the ITA All-American Championships on Sunday, with freshman Daniel Janko claiming the lone victory for the Blazers.
Janko was victorious in the opening pre-qualifying round, defeating Wake Forest's Sean Patrick Hannity, 6-3, 6-1. Janko fell in the second round to Virginia's Ryan Goetz, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, who moved on to the qualifying round with four consecutive victories.
Blazers Giovani Pasini and Fernando Vargas also participated in the pre-qualifying rounds, falling to Pepperdine's Nicholas Baez (6-3, 7-5) and Tennessee Tech's Elias Grubert (6-1, 7-6), respectively. Pasini and Vargas took part in the consolation draws as well.
UAB returns to the courts on October 17 at the ITA Southern Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
