BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Tyler Cook of the UAB football team has been named the 2017 Football Operations Director of the Year by FootballScoop.com.
Helping engineer the remarkable return of Blazer football, Cook has stood as head coach Bill Clark's right hand man throughout it all. From helping manage the roster to being the point person for the Football Operations Center, Cook's tireless work and dedication helped the process run smoothly.
"Tyler is more than my Director of Operations or right hand man, Tyler is family," head coach Bill Clark said. "He's been with me the whole way from South Alabama to Jacksonville State and now here at UAB. He's so good with the staff and players. He got the facility done, held the roster together. He really does it all here at UAB."
Cook was the point person with M.J. Harris Construction Services, LLC throughout the process of building UAB's new state-of-the-art Football Operations Center which the Blazers moved into in July of 2017.
He was also instrumental in constructing and updating the roster throughout the two years leading up to UAB's return to the field. While working closely with administration and the NCAA, Cook's dedication to each player and his arrival at UAB was a major asset to the success of 2017.
Cook also helped each player obtain their passport so the Blazers could participate in the 2017 Bahamas Bowl, a process which began in October leading up to the game on December 22.
Previous winners of the Football Operations Director of the Year are Tom Dehan (Temple, 2009), Mike Kerin (West Virginia, 2010), Mike Sinquefield (TCU, 2011), Matt Doyle (Stanford, 2012), Jason Grooms (Ohio, 2013), Marck Butler (Oklahoma State, 2014), Mark Robinson (Florida State, 2015) and Tim Knox (Illinois, 2016).
Cook will officially be honored on Monday evening, January 8, at the American Football Coaches Association national convention in Charlotte.
