UAB Finishes Off Busy Weekend with the Vulcan Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB wrapped up a busy weekend at the Birmingham CrossPlex Saturday competing in the Vulcan Invitational, its second meet of the weekend.

Sarah Livett continued her strong weekend finishing fifth in the mile with a time of 5:10.61. In the Blazer Invitational on Friday, Livett ran the anchor leg of the Distance Medley Relay helping UAB to a second place finish in that event.

Marielle Lewis and Serena Martinez also continued their strong weekend as they each claimed top 15 spots in the women's 800-meter run. Lewis finished ninth with a time of 2:18.42 while Martinez placed 12th running the 800 in 2:19.44. Both Lewis and Martinez claimed top 10 spots in the 1000-meter run in Friday's meet.

UAB Highlights:

Bethan Evans turned in a solid mile placing 11^th with a time of 5:19.75.
Keila Robertson had a strong showing in the women's triple jump placing fifth with a distance of 11.57-meters.
Karri Green finished 17^th in the women's 400-meter dash clocking in at 58.90.

Track Side with Head Coach Kurt Thomas:
"Coming back today with this meet really let us test out our legs and get used to competing back-to-back days," Thomas said. "I think we did a pretty good job, most of our athletes competed more yesterday and everyone came back and competed in at least one event today. Karri Green had a really good 400 and I think she is starting to round into shape a little bit.

"We're still a long ways away from where we want to be but this meet and this weekend was a great opportunity to get the rust off and get used to competing again and the intensity that goes along with that."
