8/21/2017 6:21:00 PM | Football
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Leading the inside wide receivers and tight ends is Casey Woods who played the position for the University of Tennessee from 2003-07.
Following his time in Knoxville, Woods became a graduate assistant at Auburn University from 2009-11 and was a member of the 2010 national championship team which was led by Cam Newton. The Tigers went 14-0 that season and defeated Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl to claim the title.
After Auburn, Woods spent the 2012 season as wide receivers coach at Arkansas State. He helped the Red Wolves finish 10-3 overall which included a seven-game winning streak to end the year, capped by a 17-13 victory over No. 25 Kent State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl.
Woods then returned to Auburn from 2013-15 as the Director of Player Personnel. In his second stint with the Tigers they were 27-13 overall and almost claimed another national title, but fell to Florida State in the 2013 national championship game in Pasadena.
His experiences led him to UAB in January of 2016 and he has been coaching UAB's wide receivers and tight ends for the last year and a half.
His unit includes slot receivers Collin Lisa and Jonathan Haden who both look to play a big role in the offense. The tight ends were dealt a tough hand with the loss of Thair Blakes and Skylor Clinton, but the unit still has capable players in Logan Scott and Hayden Pittman, as well as newly acquired Nick Holman who is a converted linebacker and made the switch to offense midway through camp.
