BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Brian Williams, who helped Florida State win a national championship in 2013, heads up the linebackers unit which boasts the two most experienced players on the team.
Williams had a very successful high school coaching career before making the jump to the college level, beginning at Rickards High School in Tallahassee from 1999-01. He then returned to his alma mater of Miami Carol City from 2002-08 as the defensive coordinator.
One year in Georgia at Northeast was followed by three years (2010-12) at Godby High School in Tallahassee as the defensive coordinator where he helped the Cougars win the 2012 state title.
Williams then transitioned to the college level where he spent 2013-14 as a defensive analyst for the Florida State Seminoles. Williams was a part of FSU's 29-game winning streak, which included winning the National Title Game in Pasadena over Auburn in 2013. FSU's defense allowed just 12.1 points per game that season.
Williams then spent 2015 at the University of Georgia as the Director of Player Relations before joining the Blazers in the spring of 2016 as the linebackers coach.
At his disposal are two of the most veteran players on the team in Shaq Jones and Tevin Crews. Both have been significant players since their arrival at UAB, which included Jones compiling 50 tackles and 12.5 TFL in 2014, while Crews contributed 33 tackles that season. Both players should have major roles as defensive leaders this season.
Williams played high school ball for legendary Florida coach Walk Frazier and earned a scholarship to Albany State University in Georgia before transferring to Florida A&M where he finished his degree.
