BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ushering in a new era of UAB Football, hundreds of fans, donors and employees joined UAB Athletics to officially open the Football Operations Center and Legacy Pavilion with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday morning.
James Spann served as the emcee of the event which featured multiple guest speakers, all of which were substantial contributors into making the Football Operations Center and Legacy Pavilion a reality.
"You can't help but to get emotional," said head coach Bill Clark. "So many people believed in our vision, and to be standing on the other side of it is truly a blessing. There are so many people to thank and we are going to make Birmingham proud of UAB Football."
With the band, spirit teams and Blaze in attendance, speeches were given by UAB President Dr. Ray Watts, Mayor William Bell, City Council members Jonathan Austin and Sheila Tyson, Jefferson County Commissioner Sandra Little Brown, UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram, Head Football Coach Bill Clark, CEO and President of Legacy Community Federal Credit Union Joe McGee, and Chairman of UAB Athletics Campaign Committee Hatton Smith.
The aforementioned names then took scissors and officially cut the ribbon to open the Football Operations Center.
Those in attendance were able to tour the state-of-the-art facility for the following hour as a thank you for the hard work and dedication from the entire city to make this happen.
UAB is just 15 days away from its historic return to the football field as the Blazers take on Alabama A&M on Sept. 2 at Legion Field. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Click here to buy tickets.
