Blazers to participate in six events
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Cross Country head coach Matt Esche has revealed the Blazers 2017 schedule, which includes meets spanning five different states.
"The 2017 season will bring many challenges along with many opportunities, and we will quickly find out how we measure up as the season gets underway in Memphis," Esche said. "Our team is a solid blend of newcomers and veterans, and I believe they will give us a chance in every race."
The Blazers open the season under the third-year head coach on September 2, as they will compete in the Memphis Twilight, hosted by Christian Brothers Academy.
Following the Falcon Classic at the University of Montevallo on September 16th, Esche's squad will trek north to Boston, Mass. for the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on the 22nd, hosted by Boston College. The Blazers close out September with the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky. on the final day of the month.
The regular season will conclude on October 13th with a short trip down I-20 to Tuscaloosa to race against rival Alabama, among others, in the Crimson Classic.
The Blazers open the postseason with the Conference USA championships on October 28th in Hattiesburg, Miss., hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi.
The NCAA championships dot the November calendar at sites the Blazers will be familiar with, as the NCAA South Regional takes place on the 10th in Tuscaloosa, while the NCAA Championships will occur on the 18th in Louisville.
"I have a high standard that I expect our runners to meet this year," Esche said. "We return an experienced group of runners that know what it takes to finish well, and we think the foundation has been established for a successful year."
