Logoleo tallied 72 hours of community service in 2016-17
IRVING, Texas - Junior Avei Logoleo of the UAB beach volleyball team has earned the C-USA Spring Spirit of Service Award, as announced by Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod Wednesday afternoon.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is given to one student-athlete from each of Conference USA's 14 member institutions in recognition for the efforts in their local communities. Winners must be in good academic standing and participate in their elected sport. The award is presented three times throughout the academic year with Logoleo joining Erik Henze of men's soccer and Deanna Kuzmanic of women's basketball as recipients from UAB.
"I am incredibly honored to be selected for the C-USA Spring Spirit of Service Award and blessed to be part of such an outstanding conference that recognizes the value of community service," Logoleo said. "I am forever thankful for endless support and opportunities UAB has provided me to make a difference in the classroom, on the field and in the community."
Logoleo contributed 72 hours of community service during the 2016-17 school year which included reading weekly to students at Birmingham area elementary schools, Children's of Alabama Wagon Washing, Deer Valley Elementary Jingle Bell Jamboree and the Miracle League of Greater Birmingham.
The Nashville, Tenn., native is a three-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor roll in addition to being named to the UAB Dean's List on three separate occasions. She currently carries a 3.52 GPA and is set to graduate in 2018 with a degree in kinesiology.
This summer, Logoleo will represent UAB's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during the C-USA SAAC meeting at the conference office from July 20-22.
On the court, Logoleo is the team's active career leader in wins with 43 and enters her senior season just eight victories shy of the all-time record. She notched 11 wins this season which all came on courts one or two.
"Avei sets a fantastic example of how to work hard as a student-athlete and contribute to the Birmingham community," said Caitlin Callaghan, UAB's Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Development. "UAB SAAC is extremely fortunate to have Avei on our Executive Board because of her genuine desire to serve others and ability to lead student-athletes to volunteer for opportunities as well."
