IRVING, Texas - UAB men's tennis freshman Tim Dollman has been named Conference USA Freshman of the Year, and earned All-Conference First Team accolades while senior Eric Komati garnered All-Conference Second Team, the league office announced Wednesday.
"Eric and Tim were thoroughly deserving of this award," head coach Derek Tarr said. "It is a fitting way for Eric to end his collegiate career. Tim had a tremendous freshman season and has the potential to be a highly ranked collegiate player next season."
Dollman, who hails from Johannesburg, South Africa, ranked second among all league players at the No. 1 singles position in overall play (6-1). The freshman turned in a perfect 3-0 in conference play at the No. 1 position, to lead the league's players. Overall, Dollman earned 10 wins (10-5), including a 6-2 mark at No. 1. Eight of his wins were earned in just two sets, while three of his losses came in three sets.
The freshman forced a three-set match against C-USA's Player of the Year, No. 50 Adam Moundir of Old Dominion, in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Tournament, a tightly contested 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 2-6 loss. Dollman also competed in the No. 1 singles position for the Blazers, compiling eight victories with Stefan Gonzalez.
Komati led UAB with 12 wins this season, primarily at the No. 2 position. The Sao Paul, Brazil, native finished the last 10 matches 6-2. Eight of his 12 wins came in two sets, with all four three set matches won in come-from-behind fashion. Komati's 12 wins on court two are the third most by any player on the court in the league.
Komati also represented UAB on court one, where he secured five wins. Komati defeated No. 111 Juan Cruz Soria of No. 47 South Alabama in a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 win. In doubles action, he turned in 15 doubles victories with five different teammates.
