EL PASO, Texas - The 2017 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships came to a close on Sunday night. The UAB women's track & field team had three scoring performances on the final day with two of them coming from Shelbi White.
"We had a hard lesson here at the conference championships," said UAB head coach Kurt Thomas. "I'm proud of our athletes for the way they prepared this season. But we fell short in a few events. This weekend was a lesson in showing up when it counts the most. Aisha had a great high jump, tied a PR and scored some crucial points. Shelbi stepped up in her first outdoor championships and scored in both the 100 and 200. The 4x100 came up short but raced their best race this season. Rebecca ran out of gas in the 1500m and Keila Robertson wasn't quite herself today in the triple jump. Hannah, Sarah, Emily and the distance group ran tough and competed hard in the 5k. There were a lot of things that just didn't go our way this weekend. We'll be better next year."
White ran in the 100 Meter and 200 Meter Dash finals on Sunday. She sprinted to a fourth-place finish in the former (11.70 seconds) and seventh in the latter (24.15 seconds) to cap off a strong season. White finished with the most individual points among any Blazer as the sophomore totaled seven points over the weekend.
Aisha Nelson tied her personal-best in the High Jump. The sophomore eclipsed 1.70 meters on her first attempt to claim sixth-place.
The 4x100 Meter Relay grouping of White, Melaney Frierson, Karri Green and Kandiss Briggs added an seasonal-best time.
