Day Two Results
EL PASO, Texas - The UAB women's track & field team had its first athlete score at the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday night. Ali Meister placed eighth in the Heptathlon with a career-high 4,892 score to earn a point for the Blazers.
"Ali came out and score an important point for us," said UAB head coach Kurt Thomas. "She's a tough competitor, so I know she wanted more, but that's the way it worked out. She set a personal-best overall and you can't argue with that. This conference is very good and Ali is right up there with them. Zeiandrea Bridges and Sarah Livett had hard days. Zee gave great effort and just quite control her throws today. Sarah just didn't have her best race. She knows she capable of scoring and we need to race better in the future. We have a lot of chances tomorrow to make finals, but everyone needs to be focused on their jobs."
Meister topped her previous top score of 4,856 that she posted at the C-USA Championships last year when she finished sixth. The junior's best event today was the Long Jump where she finished fourth with a top jump of 5.69 meters. She also clocked a 2:39.20 time in the 800 Meter Run, less than three seconds away from her season-best.
The championships continue tomorrow as a number of UAB athletes will get into the action. Field events begin at 2 p.m. while the running events start up at 6 p.m. (CST).
