CLARKESVILLE, Tenn. – The UAB beach volleyball team defeated both Morehead State and Austin Peay with 5-0 sweeps to open the Governors Beach Challenge on Saturday in Clarkesville, Tenn.
With the two wins, the Blazers improved their record to 8-13 overall and have now won four of their last six matches.
“We competed really well today for every point,” head coach Ashley Hardee said. “That’s been a focus of ours all year and it helped us pull out some wins today even when we weren’t playing our best.”
UAB opened the day with a sweep of Morehead State as the Blazers won each match in straight sets.
The Blazers breezed past Morehead State as the closest set was a 21-16 victory for UAB on court one. Other than that, UAB didn’t allow the Eagles to score more that 14 points in a set.
Emily Martinez and Kenley Adams paired up on court three to win their sixth match in the last seven contests together. The pair is now 7-4 overall together.
The match against Austin Peay was more of the same as UAB once again won in a sweep, with three of the five matches coming in straight set victories.
Avei Logoleo and Kararina Jovicic improved their record to 4-2 overall on court one by sweeping Austin Peay to conclude the day at 2-0, while Avery Hoven and Erika Zembyla won in three sets to finish 2-0 on the day.
