TEXARKANA, Ark. – The UAB men’s golf team begins postseason play at the Conference USA Championship Tournament which runs from Sunday, April 23 through Wednesday, April 26 at Texarkana Country Club.
UAB will be one of 13 teams vying for conference supremacy on the par 72, 6-969-yard course. Following the results of the 54-hole stroke play, the top four teams will advance to a seeded match play round on Wednesday, April 26. The team champion after match play will receive C-USA’s automatic berth to NCAA Regionals.
“We’ve got the capability to win this tournament but have to take it one day at a time,” head coach Mike Wilson said. “If we stay in the moment and play with confidence, we will be in position to take home the title.”
The Blazers look to continue their string of national success having made NCAA Regionals each of the last five seasons and the NCAA Tournament each of the past three.
Junior Taylor Eyster is back to defend his individual C-USA title which he won last year as the Blazers finished second overall as a team. Eyster will be joined by Tim Harry, R.J. Keur, Murray Naysmith and William Walker on the course this week.
Keur was a midyear addition to the Blazers’ lineup and the junior has been near the top of the standings the entire season. Keur, the C-USA Golfer of the Week on March 22, put together a string of four consecutive top 20 finishes, which included back-to-back second place finishes at The Hayt and the Colleton Intercollegiate. He leads the team with a 72.1 stroke average.
Walker is also playing some of his best golf heading into championship season. The redshirt freshman has notched back-to-back tournaments under par and hopes to continue his solid play this week.
The Blazers tee off at 8:40 a.m. CST on Sunday and are paired with Charlotte in the first round. Fans can follow live results the entire week by clicking here and can also receive live updates by following @UAB_MGOLF on Twitter and @uab_athletics on Instagram.
