ATLANTA – The UAB beach volleyball team swept a pair of matches over Lincoln Mercer and Austin Peay on Saturday in the opening day of the Georgia State Duals by scores of 5-0.
“We’ve been competing and playing some good volleyball lately but without the results to show,” head coach Ashley Hardee said. “It was nice to get back in the win column today. Now we have to stay focused and get back to work quickly because we have two tough matches on Sunday.”
The Blazers (6-11, 0-4 CCSA) switched things up at the top of their lineup as Avery Hoven and Erika Zembyla teamed up for the first time together and won both of their matches on court one.
Following suit, Avei Logoleo and Katarina Jovicic played together for the first time and won both of their matches on court two.
Emily Martinez and Kenley Adams continued their winning ways and improved their win streak to four straight with convincing victories on court three. In their four sets, the duo won each one by scores of 21-11, 21-10, 21-2 and 21-10.
Gabbi Moreno and Rachel Evans returned to their winning ways together in the first match against Lincoln Memorial, while in match two, Moreno teamed with Haley Jared and Evans paired with Brittney Munro.
The Blazers look to spring to two upsets tomorrow when they take on CCSA conference foes No. 7 LSU and No. 10 Georgia State.
