Blazers Fall to Valpo in Opening Match of MT Shootout

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The UAB men’s tennis team fell to Valparaiso, 4-2, in the opening match of the MT Shootout, hosted by Middle Tennessee at the Adams Tennis Complex Friday Afternoon. The Crusaders improved their win streak to 16 and stand at 17-1 this season while the Blazers fell to 9-7.

Doubles
Valpo earned an early 1-0 lead in the match with wins on courts one and three over the Blazers. On court one, Kenton Parton and Anru Fourie debuted, falling 6-2 in the Blazers’ top spot. On court three, Eric Komati and Nikolai Manchev fell, 6-0, earning the Crusaders the point.
Singles
Manchev fell 6-2, 6-2 on court four, adding to Valpo’s lead, 2-0, while Tim Dollman fell 6-4, 6-2 on court one to extend the Valpo lead to 3-0.
Komati got the Blazers on the board with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court two to cut the deficit to 3-1. Kenton Parton secured UAB’s second point, cutting the Valpo lead to one, 3-2, with a 6-3, 6-1 win on court six.
It wasn’t enough as the Crusaders won on court three over Stefan Gonzalez, 6-3, 6-4.
On court five, Anru Fourie won his first set, 6-4, but trailed 4-2 in the second set.
