Beach Volleyball Heads to Mercer for Saturday Doubleheader

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB beach volleyball team travels to Mercer for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, March 25, followed by hosting the UAB Alumni Match on Sunday afternoon, March 26 at Blazer Beach.
The Blazers (4-9, 0-4 CCSA) look to return to their winning ways after starting the season at 4-1. UAB and Mercer played earlier this season in South Carolina with the Bears coming out victorious 4-1.
Mercer is UAB’s most common opponent and this will be the 16th and 17th time the two schools have met. UAB currently holds a slight 8-7 lead in the all-time series.
This weekend also welcomes former UAB beach volleyball alumni back to Birmingham for the first annual Alumni March set for Sunday. Alumni festivities begin on Saturday at 3 p.m., while the actually match between current Blazers and alumni will take place on Sunday at 12 p.m. Contact Ashley Hardee for more information (ahardee@uab.edu).
Looking ahead, following this weekend’s matches at Mercer, the Blazers head to Atlanta next weekend for the Georgia State Duals where UAB will face Lincoln Memorial, Austin Peay, No. 8 LSU and No. 9 Georgia State.
